Geographic Districts Will Be Interesting

RECEIVED Mon., Oct. 28, 2013

Dear Editor,
Regarding “Point Austin: The Fun Begins," [News, Oct. 25]: Yes, I do think the geographic district will make it much, much cheaper to buy a vote.
Moreover, though I am in near Northwest Austin (Duval and 183), I appreciate the irony for the Central Austin folks. Without their votes – which presumably were based on an idea of fairness – the geographic representation would not have passed. Then it does and the committee immediately gerrymanders the central districts, treating Mueller oddly and against their wish and weirdly attaching Clarksville near to Pflugerville.
Central voters seemed to have voted in a system that looks a lot more like Chicago politics, but that vote itself – which gave away power – suggests they're not ready for Chicago politics. This will be interesting, I think.
