Richard Whittaker commented that Texas lawmakers “have become increasingly frustrated” by the diversion of tax money away from roads [“Filling Potholes With Promises
,” News, Aug. 9]. He might have also noted that those of us contemplating continued residence on this planet are becoming increasingly frustrated with Texas legislators making transportation plans as if we were still in the middle of the 20th century. More roads will produce more greenhouse gases, which will produce more heat waves, droughts, and wild fires. How low will the Highland Lakes have to get before the mindset of our legislators changes?
