One Good Deed a Day

RECEIVED Tue., April 24, 2012

Dear Editor,
After hearing about parking issues at the 2011 Arcade Fire performance at the Backyard, I must shine a light on a great act of kindness shown us at the recent Willie Nelson concert. My wife has had ovarian cancer for four years now and the treatments are starting to wear on her. Following the parking directions given to us by the staff, we still found ourselves quite a ways from the gate. I went up ahead to see if we could be helped. By dumb luck I found the owner of the venue, Tim O'Conner. This was 10 minutes before gates were to open and the last thing he needed was to listen to me whine. He stopped me, mid-whine, and asked me what I needed. I told him I needed to park closer and to get a handicap seat. He pointed to an open area and told me to park in his personal parking place and then to meet him at the front of the entry gate in 10 minutes. I followed his instructions and sure enough there he was at the gate making sure we got in front and had a handicap seat. Tim, and the rest of the people in Austin need to know how much that act of caring and compassion meant to a very sick lady that I've loved for more than 30 years. Can we all follow Tim's example and try and do something kind at least once a day? Even though we've become a big city, we are still Austin. Thank you Tim, may many blessings rain down upon you.
