No November Elections

RECEIVED Wed., Oct. 19, 2011

Dear Editor,
In the debate on changing the date of City Council elections from May to November, a major problem was largely ignored.
The thing that really scares me about November elections is that they will require a December run-off election. These will sometimes be held during the Christmas season. Any bets on a high turnout in this kind of election? You might be able to fit the winning number of voters in my bedroom closet. (OK, maybe my living room.)
I guess you can restructure the City Charter so that run-offs are held in January. But unless something like this is done, I will oppose any election to change the charter to November elections. It will create a new problem by solving another.
Sincerely,
Paul Robbins
