To All Interested
Chronicle Readers:
In regards to the Sept. 2 article "
Poison in the Park," [News, Sept. 2], interested readers should go to the Web edition and read my cease-and-desist
letter. It is a little long, but it is well worth reading, as it illustrates how difficult it is to get a complicated story across in modern American journalism.
The issue of the city of Austin's long-term failure to use herbicides, period – it isn't a question of appropriate use – is long and complicated and doesn't reflect well on the city's bureaucracy or American society or the American people for that matter. I extend an invitation to anyone interested in the issues – issues of public policy making, parks maintenance, biology, botany, chemistry, and the sociological failures of American society – to contact me via email if interested and attend a field trip out to Stacy Park. Figure on 90 minutes out in the park, maybe two hours if people walk slowly and have lots of questions.
