'Thank You, Anthony Graves'

RECEIVED Tue., July 5, 2011

Dear Editor,
Regarding the Chronicle story of June 30 [“Graves Gets $1.45 Million,” Newsdesk blog] about the award to Anthony Graves of $1.45 million, it is amazing that if Graves had not come along to become our “poster child,” two forms of injustice would continue to be the case for Texas: 1) No compensation for exonerees unless the word "innocent" is put into the record; and 2) by another change to the law, the state attorney general will absorb child support debt it wrongfully imposed on him.
May I ask, why does the state attorney general remain anally retentive and obstinate when it yet seeks to dump Graves' pursuit against the child support imposition before any actual legal change is made in the Family Code?
Thank you, Anthony Graves, for setting a few more long-awaited things in order for the rest of us.
