Bankers in Charge Either Way

RECEIVED Sat., July 2, 2011

Dear Editor,
The (Jim) “Hightower Report” [July 1] points out that President Obama has (surprisingly?) sidled up to Wall Street to finance his 2012 re-election campaign, to the detriment of the American people and breaking his ’08 promise to corral the “fat cats.”
Michael Ventura [“Letters at 3AM,” July 1] more damningly cites other blatant lies Obama used to get elected: care and support for war vets, which has not been sufficiently forthcoming; an overdue scaling down and withdrawal of U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan; a farcical mutually beneficial alliance with Pakistan.
I know that Ventura supported Hillary Clinton as the Democratic presidential candidate in ’08. I contend that had she been on the Democratic ticket, John McCain would be president today with Sarah Palin in line to succeed him in 2016.
Granted, that is speculation. Yet I wonder what Hightower and Ventura imagine would have happened under a continued Republican administration (beyond the holdovers from the Bush administration who are still in key positions of power)?
Let’s just acknowledge that the military-industrial complex and bankers are totally in charge of policy, regardless of which political party resides in the White House, and well on their way to reducing America to medieval circumstances.
Sincerely,
Kenney C. Kennedy
