Junk Story Had Too Much Wrong Information

RECEIVED Mon., Nov. 29, 2010

Dear Mr. Whittaker,
Your piece on the Cathedral of Junk [“Chapel of Junk?,” News, Nov. 19], although very brief, contained enough misinformation to rival Sarah Palin's memorable “death panel” quote. Fortunately, those who take the time to read the permits on Hannemann's front door know better. The Cathedral of Junk is not closed to tourists, never posed serious health risks, is available for small weddings but not limited to this kind of event.
What were you thinking when you wrote this stuff? Please get your facts straight.
Sincerely yours,
Linda Lella
[Richard Whittaker responds: The terms of the full agreement between Mr. Hannemann and the city of Austin regarding the Cathedral of Junk are discussed in "Don't Touch My Junk!," p.22.]
