'Best Of' Corrections

RECEIVED Tue., Sept. 8, 2009

Dear Editor,
Thanks for the “Best of Austin 2009” issue [Sept. 4]. I've been able to peruse it and wanted to point out a couple things.
It is true that the Ginger Man has more than 30 bottled beers on hand, as you state. It is also true that it has more than 100 bottled beers. Perhaps the unintentional slight came from the fact that it has more than 30 bottled beers from the United States alone (according to its current website menu).
Your use of “enormity” in describing Barbara Jordan's import is technically correct according to some dictionaries, but its use can be confusing in some situations. That's because it also means “enormous evil, offensiveness, or wickedness.” Your context leaves no doubt that it's used as a compliment, but there are other synonyms for “hugeness” that don't also mean that the person is a huge asshole. I suggest that you save “enormity” for Dick Cheney.
Thanks,
Mark O'Shea
