Unkind Words Mar Concert

RECEIVED Wed., May 6, 2009

Dear Editor,
I’m a devoted listener to KASE 100.7 and was thrilled to receive an e-mail that I’d won tickets to the Sugarland/Billy Currington concert in Austin last Thursday night. My boyfriend and I attended and thoroughly enjoyed the concert - thanks KASE!
However, I want to talk about an experience we had in the great city of Austin at that concert Thursday night. We were seated in section 61, row 16, seats 1 and 2 when a couple climbed the stairs and took their seats behind us. We could hear foul language and comments from the blond woman sitting behind us immediately after they sat down. She stated she’d like to “push that Mexican down the stairs” and then commented, “Those swine-flu-infested Mexicans.” My boyfriend is Mexican, and it became apparent she was talking about him. I was and still am shocked that there are people out there that feel such behavior is appropriate and fair. I’m hurt that someone would say such horrible things about a kindhearted man because of his ethnicity. My boyfriend urged me that night not to dwell on this incident and to enjoy the concert. But still today, I find myself thinking about that woman and her words. I ask for prayer and pity on people like her. Little does she know, had she fallen down those stairs that night, my boyfriend would have been there to help her with no regard to the color of her skin.
