Palin Comparisons

RECEIVED Wed., Sept. 3, 2008

Dear Editor,
OK, OK, I realize that no one has to point out how absurd John McCain’s VP pick is … but I just can't help it! Remember, Sarah Palin has to be qualified to take over as president. Well, she has always been very pretty. In fact she was almost Miss Alaska! She graduated from college. That’s nice. Of course, it was with a degree in journalism. I'm pretty sure there are some staff writers for the Chronicle with a degree in journalism. No offense to any of those fine folks, but I'm not gonna vote for you to be vice president either. After college, she became a sports anchor for an Alaskan news station.
She served on the City Council of a town of 5,000. Isn't the owner of Amy's Ice Creams on a City Council? Once again, no offense, I'm sure Amy is a fine person, but she isn’t going to get my vote for vice president, either. Sarah Palin then was elected mayor of her little Alaskan town. For six years she served the town of Wasilla as mayor. Wasilla is close to the size of … Buda. I'm not even sure if Buda has a mayor, but if they do, he or she is probably not qualified to be president of the United States.
Ah, but then she became governor of the entire state of Alaska. Come on people, it’s the biggest state in the country! Of course, more people live in El Paso than the entire state of Alaska. What do I know? Maybe her experience governing a huge unpopulated area will be useful in world trade, domestic economics, and foreign policy (Alaska is pretty close to Russia!).
McCain probably picked her because of her strong conservative viewpoints. She could use her position to lead the country back to higher moral standards. She'll encourage parents to teach abstinence before marriage to cut down on teenage unmarried pregnancies. Uh … um, no comment.
