'Smart Growth' Is Way Too Loud and Noisy

RECEIVED Mon., June 2, 2008

Dear Editor,
Speaking of “smart growth” … at 2301 S. Fifth, some new (“really nice”) condos (surprise!) are going up. For months now, my neighbors and I have had to endure jackhammers and heavy machinery rattling the walls before 7am. This is a residential area, and this is ridiculous. Why should an entire neighborhood be made to suffer because some greedy bastard wants to make a bunch of cash selling yet more condos? At the very least, if they must do this, the city ought to ban construction before 8 or 9am. Sleep, like food and other needs, ought to be recognized as part of the equation. Now, how do I get a petition going to change city laws?
