Supports State Rep. Dawnna Dukes

RECEIVED Thu., Dec. 27, 2007

Dear Editor,
State Rep. Dawnna Dukes always stands up for state employees, always fights for public schools and services, always supports unions, always votes her conscience, always votes her district.
Do any of us regret her vote for Tom Craddick? Yes. Will she take orders from us? No. Does she take orders from Craddick? Hell no. One vote only.
Keep in mind that her other option was to vote for Jim Pitts (a Craddick clone), who lied to her and hung her our to dry on the Homestead Exemption Bill.
How many other public officials in town made volcanic anti-Iraq-war speeches back in the day when the mess was called a "good" war?
We all know about the critical shortage of white guy attorneys at the state House. But we ask you to set aside that concern, consider Dawnna's broad and deep public record (not just cherry picks), then get involved.
As Texas State (and State University) Employees Union members, we will be block-walking the hell out of District 46 and will keep you posted on the Chronicle events calendar. Join us. Cool weather walking – you can't beat it.
