Dear Editor, It’s sad that Dennis Kucinich’s Dick Cheney-impeachment bill only gained attention because of Republican chicanery to embarrass House Democrats. If there were ever a case for impeachment, it seems obvious that it should start with Cheney, the Bush administration’s most influential policy-maker. The articles of impeachment listed in Kucinich’s bill recount by now well-known crimes: manipulating intelligence, falsely linking al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein, and threatening aggression against Iran (a future crime in the making). In addition to these should be Cheney’s profiteering from the war as a Halliburton stockholder. New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg estimated Cheney’s Halliburton stock options at more than $9 million in 2005. Perhaps Democrats are afraid of setting a risky precedent should Cheney be impeached over war crimes. After all, Hillary Clinton’s vitriol against Iran seems to increase daily as the election looms. At any rate, it’s instructive to know where Democrats stand. Apparently, it’s on the "right" side of the aisle.
