Consider Kerry's Life Experience

RECEIVED Mon., Nov. 6, 2006

Dear Editor,
To those who still believe that John Kerry was speaking literally Oct. 30 and are offended by his arrogance ... is it logically possible that Kerry, a politician, would intimate, on national TV, that our troops – the presumed constituents' sons and daughters – are stupid?
Briefly consider Kerry’s tour in Vietnam. He served under fire with these guys. Not the hottest areas, but he was shot at. His job was dangerous. Try to imagine a terrible war. By the time his service was ending, he believed – empirically – that our involvement in Vietnam was publicly predicated on a lie. He believed that his fellow servicemen were dying for nothing, and he spoke out passionately in consequence. He denigrated the policy and its human cost. He protested to protect himself and others in the future from being ordered to kill and die for something other than legitimate national defense. Thank God it worked.
