Not From Austin

RECEIVED Tue., Nov. 15, 2005

Dear Sir,
Need to remind Michael King that Mr. Cumberbatch is employed by Seton already [“Point Austin,” News, Nov. 11], and he remains at the Police Monitor under peculiar circumstances. He's not from Austin and with an attitude so pro-white, he's been allowed to remain as head of OPM as the Austin police struggles for support. (Iris Jones did too, when Sophia King was killed.) Roy Butler, apart from chairing the citizen review, presides over the Greater Austin Crime Commission, which has showered Mr. Knee and everybody else with recognitions; the latest, recommending officers for "risking their lives" carrying mattresses off filthy Mexicans during Operation Restore Hope, and he is in line to head OPM this year. He got briefed in 2004, in the presence of not one community member, but of these two kids who run the place, and Mr. Cumberbatch himself. Mr. King knows that OPM is an outsider's heaven, just like every office in the city of Austin. Not one at the Police Monitor identifies with the community they serve because it serves as a buffer for Internal Affairs, and Internal Affairs is a sham. There. About Mr. Butler's idea for a statue of Mike Sheffield, he is already standing on a pedestal of black and Latino leaders.
