Ashamed to Be a Texan

RECEIVED Thu., Nov. 10, 2005

Dear Editor,
I am ashamed of my fellow Texans. Ashamed that my home state thinks it is acceptable to put my liberties up for popular vote, as well as those of my friends. Ashamed that the “great” state of Texas has chosen to make me a lesser citizen by denying me equality.
All who voted to permanently take away my rights as a Texan and an American should be deeply ashamed of themselves. You are why the world sees the United States and her citizens as uncivilized.
You make me ashamed to be a Texan.
What happened to the land of the free? What did those who defended the Alamo fight and die for, if not liberty? Does our nation's pledge now end "with liberty and justice for the majority"?
I didn't lose. You did. Texas is a lesser state now, because of you. Good night, and good luck.
