Dear Editor, I just got back after having lived in the U.S. as a grad student for three years. It was a nightmare: I was poorly paid and living costs were expensive, the phone and other utility companies and especially the HMOs were expensive and incompetent, and public transport was a very bad joke ["Letters @ 3AM," Jan. 21]. Everyone just seemed to want to get a war on, not realizing just how out of touch they were. Given the U.S. media, this is not surprising.
