Editorial Board Either Incompetent or Dishonest (The Latter – We Were Paid Off)

RECEIVED Mon., Oct. 18, 2004

Dear Editor,
I don't know whether to classify your editorial board as incompetent or dishonest. Libertarian Michael Badnarik is on the ballot, despite your claim to the contrary in your Kerry endorsement ["Endorsements," Oct. 15].
By the way, it is commendable that you can turn your back on Bush, even considering his history in your state. But I guess Kennebunkport isn't in Texas.
Isn't Badnarik from Texas? How low can you stoop?
Mark Gailey
Berea, Ky.
[News Editor Michael King responds: Because of an editing error, the sentence that made the distinction between write-ins Ralph Nader and David Cobb (both write-ins) and Libertarian candidate Michael Badnarik (who is indeed on the Texas ballot) lost that distinction. Voters will presumably survive the shock of seeing his name after our mistake. Badnarik, who lives in Austin, is originally from Indiana – although what that might have to do with our endorsement, only Mr. Gailey knows.]
