To the editor, The first presidential debate had a clear winner. Prior to this debate I planned on voting against Mr. Bush. Now I plan to vote for Mr. Kerry. While Mr. Bush was impressive in his use of complete sentences, he also successfully demonstrated that he lives in a fantasy world. He honestly believes the unsubstantiated spin which his administration feeds the American people: that Iraq is getting better, the economy is getting better, and that if we don't ask too many questions everything will be fine. On the other hand Mr. Kerry succinctly, passionately, and clearly demonstrated that he deserves the White House. He successfully countered every attack that has been made on him during this campaign. He made it plain that he truly understands the mess this country has made of Iraq. Mr. Kerry lucidly presented his plans for ending this shameful blight on America's proud history, and most importantly he explained why his plans will work and Mr. Bush's fantasies will not. Mr. Kerry undoubtedly hit a home run with this debate.
Sincerely, John Wohn
