In Favor of a More Inclusive Society

RECEIVED Thu., Sept. 30, 2004

To the editor:
Much criticism accrues to presidential candidate John Kerry for his liberal voting record in the U.S. Senate.
Just what is this "offense" of liberalism that Sen. Kerry has been charged with?
Liberalism – to be precise, the liberal-progressive-revolutionary movement – exists solely to create a fairer, more inclusive society in which everyone can contribute to, and benefit from, rising prosperity.
The brightest star in the constellation of LPRM accomplishments is the founding of our own nation. Indeed, it was the LPRM that won the American Revolution and left us a democracy to make.
Had it been left to conservatives in the young American colonies – conservatives were called "Tories" in those days; they still are in England – the United States of America would not have come into existence.
The LPRM is as potent a force today as it was during the American Revolution. And liberalism will remain the driving force in human affairs into the foreseeable future.
It simply cannot be otherwise; people below the privileged elite in society will always strive for greater inclusiveness. The LPRM alone serves those interests, the interests of the majority.
In order to protect their privilege, those at the top have done virtually everything possible to stifle liberal initiatives. These are the ideological heirs to those who fought against our becoming an independent nation to begin with.
They are the right-wingers: conservatives and reactionaries. They are the ones condemning Sen. Kerry for his liberalism.
