Floridian Weighs in on What Is Best for Austin Access

RECEIVED Tue., Aug. 10, 2004

Dear Editor,
I am very disheartened by last week’s article by Mr. Black (?) [Ed.'s note: the author is Mike Clark-Madison not Louis Black] wherein he stated many insults against Mr. Alex Jones and his show that appears on Austin Public Access ["Austin@Large," News, Aug. 6].
I am especially disappointed in his opinion that he is in favor of the new format of all music for public access and that he is tired of seeing Alex Jones. Well, I and many others are not tired of seeing Alex Jones and hearing about the corruption in our city, state, and federal government. I suggest the writer simply change the station if he does not want to watch. Does he only have public access TV and no other channels at his home?
In addition, I and many others enjoy the other "free speech" that appears on public access and do not feel music is a good substitute for informing the public of corruption.
As well, I am ashamed for your paper that you would allow someone to publish foul language in an article that children will likely see.
I believe that the best format for Austin public access is the one that is presently being utilized and any attempt to change it in favor of something that does not give the public the ability to speak out on issues of importance to the public. Alex Jones is a good man, a whistleblower, and a patriot, and we need more like him. I believe your paper owes an apology to him at the least.
Very truly yours,
