Bush and Cheney

RECEIVED Tue., April 20, 2004

Dear Editor,
Isn't it amazing how Dick Cheney shows up when the going gets tough for the president? Cheney had to retreat a few days after 9/11 when Bush returned to D.C. After all, it's not good policy to outshine the star.
Didn't you love those broadcasts of the president from somewhere out in the hinterlands. It reminded me of the Wizard's speeches from behind the curtain.
Well it is hard times again with the public and the 9/11 Commission asking for answers. So the president calls on his tutor and nanny to help him through this testing time. Dick Cheney of course will be by his side in facing the commission. I'm sure Nanny Hughes will help soothe the hurt by making sure the public sees what a big, brave boy he is.
What a shame that our world culture evolved in a way that allowed leaders to declare war from plush offices. If we had remained insistent on those ordering war to be there leading the troops into battle the world might have a better chance of achieving peace.
The blood loss of others does not seem to have the same impact on decision making as the possible loss of your own blood.
