30 Things

The highs, the lows, the lists

30 Things

And so here we are, at last.

This issue marks our 30th anniversary (the actual date is Sept. 4 – no gifts, please). For the past year, our website has featured a page called "Year 30," which has been updated weekly with the following:

• Our Spot the Vintage Ad contest: the ads and the winners,

• PDFs of all the issues from our first year, and

• "30 Things": lists of 30 notable (or laughable or lamentable) takes on the Chronicle's coverage, culture, and commentary from the past three decades.

All that wraps up this week, and includes the one-two punch of "30 Alejandro Escovedo Hail Marys" – genuflections from acolyte and Music Editor Raoul Hernandez – and Film Editor Marjorie Baumgarten's hilarious and thorough curation "30 Favorite Movie Bombs," many of which turn out to be from the Friday the 13th franchise.

The full list of lists is printed below, and you'll find all of the above on our website: austinchronicle.com/year30.

Finally, we hope you'll join us in celebrating our year of monklike devotion to our lists, as well as the preceding 29 years of hedonism, with Master Pancake Theater, who will be mocking the John Travolta-Jamie Lee Curtis "journalism" movie Perfect (1985) in our honor on Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Paramount Theatre. Visit austinchronicle.com/perfect for more details and to RSVP for the event. It's free, just like us.
