Beatles Full Moon Concert in the Dark
On the April Full Moon, come set intentions and indulge in the mesmerizing allure of live acoustic music performed by world-class musicians, surrounded by the warm glow of candlelight. And now here's a live virtual tasting class led by Antonelli's expert cheesemongers, just in time for Mother's Day, in which you'll taste your way through seven different cheeses (all made by women) and learn about "the many different ways women have played a role in the cheesemaking world. Some of this class's cheeses are made by the 'goat ladies of the Eighties,' considered the mothers of the modern American artisan cheese movement. As You Like It: A Zoom Play
ImprovEd Shakespeare is taking William Shakespeare’s classic online. Director Andee Kinzy gathered her students virtually for weekly rehearsals, and now the players will be performing from their houses and controlling their entrances and exits as panelists on the webinar. No stranger to pushing the boundaries of performance, the company has experimented with site-specific, livestreamed theatre before: an impromptu production of Hamlet, from young theatre kids around the world. COTA Food Drive
Circuit of the Americas is inviting fans to take a drive on its world-famous 3.4-mile track to collect donations for Central Texas Food Bank and host a parade of unity, hope, and fun. Join your friends and neighbors safely from inside your vehicle as you ascend the iconic “Turn 1” hill, weave through the challenging “esses” at turns 3 and 4, and cruise down the same back stretch as the greatest drivers in Formula 1 have done. You can also donate online right now; $1 can provide up to four meals. Northern-Southern: Left In Leaves
This is a group show of artistic interventions across the city of Austin, freely left in outdoor public spaces throughout May. (Note: Email the gallery for a map to the sites.) Who's involved in this fine endeavor? Sterling Allen, Ted Carey, Adreon Denson Henry, Sarah Fagan, Rachel Freeman & Korey Weiss, Emily Lee, Sean Ripple, Amy Scofield, Meghan Shogan, Amanda Julia Steinback & Staci Maloney, Alyssa Taylor Wendt, and Suzanne Wyss. Documentation will be shared on the Northern-Southern website and social media; at the conclusion of the month, the maps will be collected in a print zine, in which each artist will be interviewed. Vault Stone Shop: Mask Collection
For this new group show curated by GD Wright, a coalition of artists – Ender Martos, Alexis Mabry, Jade Walker, Bale Creek Allen, B. Shawn Cox, Brian David Johnson, so many others – has produced and donated more than 100 fabric masks to be given away each day during the show’s duration. Also, each artist has created a unique commemorative artwork referencing their thoughts and experiences of the Coronavirus pandemic. These interpretations of a face mask will be on view in the gallery's window display for two weeks. Note: All the gallery’s proceeds from sales will be donated to purchase hand sanitizer for distribution throughout the homeless community in Austin.Through May 20 -

Virtual Vortex: Heartland
This is a rebroadcast video of the Vortex production of Gabriel Jason Dean's amazing, heartwrenching drama in which a retired professor in Nebraska, reeling after his adopted daughter Getee is killed by the Taliban while teaching children outside of Kabul, is visited by an Afghan refugee who's carrying Getee's prized books, and – oh, you definitely need to see what happens next. Starring Kareem Badr, Kacey Samiee, and Lowell Bartholomee; directed by Rudy Ramirez. I can't vouch for the camerawork on this video – I've not seen it yet – but the show itself, there's no way I can recommend it highly enough. HC4A/Shalom Austin School Supplies Fundraiser
HC4A and Shalom Austin had set a date of April 19 for their eighth annual event raising funds for school supplies for Austin-area homeless children, which last year supported over 1,300 children. The April event is now canceled due to coronavirus, but you can still help reach the fundraising goal of $34,000 to support 1,600 students. A small donation of $25 will help support one child.
