      Mardi Gras at Easy Tiger

Sure, they'll have live music and games and such going at all three Easy Tiger locations for Mardi Gras, but we're shouting them out here because, well, King Cakes, right? We've gotta have one, and we know the Tiger makes the bready confections so fresh and tasty – with their signature pain au lait dough stuffed with a rich cinnamon sugar paste and sprinkled with colorful sanding sugar on top. Each will serve 8-10 people, and they'll come with a baby tiger (OK, a small plastic rendition of a baby tiger) for good luck. Bet your fur and whiskers this'll be a pastry-potent power move for your best holiday party. Note: Pre-order now; available Feb. 24-March 1.

      Theo Lawrence, The Avocados

It was a familiar scene at the White Horse on a recent evening: a band slinging country diddies to a dance floor packed with whirling bodies and cowboy hats. The five-piece on stage could’ve passed for Austin locals and honky-tonk regulars, and for the past month, Theo Lawrence, of Bordeaux, France, might as well be. Between February 5, when they arrived, and when they leave in early March, Lawrence and his band will have played a stunning 21 shows in Austin. There’s not a ton of time for recovery, either. During the day, the bluesy-country rockers hoof it out to Wyldwood, where they are cutting an album with Jimmie Vaughan’s bassist Billy Horton. Have they had time to experience Austin outside of clubs or the studio? “Not at all,” Lawrence says. “We do what we love, can’t complain. It’s exactly why we came here.”
