Austin Humane Society Adventure Week
Spring break is going to the dogs (and cats) at the Austin Humane Society! Young participants will spend the week exploring how animals and the humans who love them can get outside and stay active. The week kicks off with a "funniest pet" photo contest, and continues with hands-on, educational sessions including storytime, Backyard Bingo with Austin Wildlife Rescue, leash and pet bed craft tutorials, live walks with adoptable dogs, and a behind-the-scenes tour of the shelter. Bark for the Arc
The Arc of the Capital Area is once again joining forces with its dog therapy partner, Divine Canines, to host this virtual art auction featuring original pet-inspired art created by local artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Artwork sales will benefit the student artists, as well as virtual programs provided by The Arc of the Capital Area to Central Texans with disabilities. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to Divine Canines to help them continue free dog therapy services. Conspirare: Quarantine Madrigals
Conspirare joins with composer Reena Esmail and poet Amy Fogerson on a unique project to bring these Quarantine Madrigals to life. Esmail says that the madrigals, composed in response to the pandemic, are intended to “trace the break from society, the descent into isolation, and the eventual return to one another;" the lyrics to each madrigal are haikus by Fogerson. This online event features singing by Conspirare artists and a live discussion with Craig Hella Johnson, Esmail, and Fogerson. Note: Each madrigal will be featured in a weekly “Madrigal Mondays” segment on Facebook starting March 22, and each of the Conspirare singer videos will be available for singers to download and sing along with to create their own performance videos.
