Austin Studio Tour

The Austin Studio Tour, produced by Big Medium, is a free, self-guided art event that combines the West Austin Studio Tour and East Austin Studio Tour to provide opportunities for artists all over Austin to connect with each other and showcase current work – and for the public to experience the cultural vibrancy of our city from, you might say, the inside out. This year's Tour happens over three weekends and will be divided into two regions, west of IH-35 and east of IH-35, allowing citizens to choose weekends and regions and plan accordingly. We've got a fine mess o' recommendations coming up for you next issue, but right now check out the excellent website these wizards have conjured for your delight and convenience.

Beerthoven: Viva Lviv

Beerthoven raises a glass in tribute to our Ukrainian friends, neighbors, and allies in this concert that celebrates Ukrainian chamber music. Featured performers for this event are vocalists Mikhail Smigelski and Elisabeta Racolta, violinist Christabel Lin, cellist Daniel Kopp, and pianist Peir-Shiuan Tang. No artist embodies the spirit of Austin’s music scene more than Doug Sahm, the epitome of cosmic cowboy-ness who helped solidify the city as a Groover’s Paradise. On what would be his 81st birthday, Sahm-heads pay tribute at Sagebrush, digging into the Texas Tornados’ deep and eclectic catalog. Guitar Grady hosts a whirlwind of local artists including Paul Minor, Billy Broome, Andrew Duplantis, Matt Hubbard, Kevin Lance, Hilary York, Jordan Matthew Young, and others. On the other side of town at Chronicle HQ, Los Texmaniacs and the Texas Mavericks soundtrack a party for Sir Doug & the Genuine Texas Cosmic Groove, officially re-launching the documentary that premiered at SXSW 2015. Hallelujah, it's back! After two years of virtual and hybrid programming, the Texas Book Festival returns in full fine form for its 27th iteration – celebrating books and authors and all things literary and adjacent thereunto, right there in the State Capitol and along Austin’s iconic Congress Avenue. Angie Cruz is gonna be there, and Omar Epps, Janet Evanovich, Anand Giridharadas, Gabino Iglesias, Jacques Pépin, Margo Price, Rebecca Roanhorse, James Wade, and many more. The weekend includes author readings, panel discussions, and signings, exhibitor booths, food vendors, and plenty of family activities. And, look, you're reading these words – omg, it's, like, contagious!

Texas Monthly BBQ Fest

It's the annual big one, barbecuewise, from your friends at Texas Monthly – with two days of much food, drinks, live music, cooking demos, and a marketplace overflowing the streets of, well, Lockhart, this year. The "BBQ World's Fair" happens on Saturday, with 'cue joints showcasing international and creative flavors, a curated array of taquerias, and market vendors offering metalworks, crafts, sauces, rubs, and more. Sunday brings the "Top 50 Picnic," with plates from more than 30 barbecue spots featured on Texas Monthly’s most recent list of Top 50 BBQ Joints. And yeah, both days will be rockin' (and countryin') with live music.
