The local powerhouse of figurative painting, the art school that's the smart school for artists of all kinds, they've got a painting-along-at-home series going to help you keep your skills honed in these socially restrictive times, featuring live costumed models posing on camera and a thriving community of creatives rendering that lovely human biotecture from their separate studios. "Join us for a three-hour costumed-model drawing session. Use any supplies you wish, listen to music, share your work, chat with others. Little Texans: Trees
Now that eclipse fever has died down, we can focus on solid ground again. For this special family program from the Texas history museum, the fine folks of Texas A&M Forest Service swing by to teach little ones all about trees. Kiddos will take in a woodsy storytime, learn how to identify trees, and branch out to some hands-on activities celebrating the trunked treasures that keep the world going ’round. Sweet Pill, Zeta, Equipment
Hailing from Philadelphia, emo fivepiece Sweet Pill adds a new experimental edge to pop-punk nostalgia. The group’s latest EP, Starchild, simmers with breakneck riffs, tug-of-war tempos, and bittersweet lyrics. In just over 11 minutes, their Good Charlotte-reminiscent melodies tread the early 2000s with sharply stacked vocals (“Chewed Up”) and steadfast drumming (“Sympathy”). The Hopeless Record signees further showcase their range with the mellow-paced plucks of “Eternal,” just before bringing the project to an all-or-nothing electric end with “Sympathy.” The night features support from Venezuelan post-rock foursome Zeta and hardcore heavy-hitters Equipment. – Miranda GarzaTue., April 23, 9pm
