Vale, Black Vice, Triacanthos

A relentless crust/metal hybrid pulling influences across black, death, and doom, Oakland’s Vale places the formidable vocals of Kate Coysh atop a fourpiece battering ram with a pedigree including 20 Buck Spin, Relapse, and Prosthetic Records. The group released six-song debut LP Burden of Sight on Bay Area metal tastemaker the Flenser last month. The night’s incantation begins with homegrown black metal both atmospheric (Black Vice) and traditional (Triacanthos). – Greg Stitt
