Screwfest 2018 w/ Lil Keke, Lil Flip, ESG, Big Pokey
DJ Screw (1971-2000) cemented his place in Southern music lore through his turntables, but the late Robert Earl Davis Jr., born in Smithville, began as a classical pianist at age 9. Three years later, his spinning touched off over 200 mixtapes that shaped Houston rap and trap in general. Screwfest, begun in 2006, pays homage to two pillars of Texas culture: a screw scene by the likes of H-town’s Lil’ Keke, member of Davis’ original Screwed Up Click, and neighbor Lil’ Flip, and what Southern rappers can’t shut up about – cars. – Clara Wang
