Third Coast soul man Roy Head actually got discovered out of San Marcos, fronting Fifties teen rockers the Traits. The Texan eventually lit a fuse of strutting country and funk influences, most memorably 1965’s “Treat Her Right,” and still leads a sweaty live show. – Kevin Curtin
