Kali Uchis, Gabriel Garzon-Montano

A child of the War on Drugs era in Colombia, Kali Uchis now brings her immigrant perspective to the forefront of debut Isolation. While the backdrop coalesces sun-kissed instrumentation and beach pop with lush soundscapes, her world-weary lyricism addresses the American dream’s empty promises (“Miami”), listless escapism (“Tyrant”), and economic inequity (“Your Teeth in My Neck”). NYC R&B ascendant Gabriel Garzón-Montano opens. – Alejandra Ramirez
