Broken Social Scene, The Belle Game

Following a seven-year hiatus, Canadian collective Broken Social Scene reinvigorated their shambling, instrumental indie rock on 2017’s Hug of Thunder. Founders Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning, joined by Feist and others, maintain the canonized essence of 2002’s sophomore breakout You Forgot It in People. Vancouver band the Belle Game open up with propellant pop. Inside afterward, Guatemalan songstress and Latin Grammy winner Gaby Moreno unfurls her soulful, bilingual blues preceded by local Latin polymath Davíd Garza. – Rachel Rascoe
