Less than a year since his last Austin gig, former Church-current Noctorum/Anekdoten guitarist and singer-songwriter MWP returns with tunes from across his long career. The current Texas sojourn involves his working as producer and guitarist for folk-popping Dallas tunesmith and tour opener Salim Nourallah, whose latest album Somewhere South of Sane came out in late September. London’s Laish, aka songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Danny Green, sets the scene.
DJ GirlFriend stages an all-queer showcase for those looking for less bro tanks with their music fest. The eight-act bill includes local hip-hop hypesmith Blakchyl and San Antonio trans metal axe grinder Shelly Webster, formerly of horror rockers Grave Babes. Synthy duo Baij and Jacksonville pop/rock outfit Tomboi accompany, joined by Fat Bottom Cabaret’s seductive stage moves, dungeon femme fatale Belladonna’s extraterrestrial mug, and more.
Ninth iteration, the Hickoids and Saustex Records roll weekend two of ACL. Saturday commences at Eastside dive Lost Well with the Bridge Farmers’ bulldozing metal and NOLA blues busters DiNola. Afterparty Sunday at SouthPop for the opening of late Hickoids founder Davy Jones’ art exhibit, 6-9pm, with his former band on at 7:09pm.
