    Joe Louis Walker, Jake Andrews

This San Francisco guitarist fuses ancient blues with strains of soul, rock, jazz, and gospel from his 1986 debut Cold Is the Night to 2015’s Everybody Wants a Piece. Given friends and company including John Lee Hooker, Buddy Miles, Thelonious Monk, and Muddy Waters, JLW’s supplied licks to Grammy winners like the late James Cotton’s Deep in the Blues, and belong to the Blues Hall of Fame.

    The Lone Bellow

The Lone Bellow jumped from Brooklyn to Nashville to record last September’s third LP Walk Into a Storm, recruiting Americana super producer Dave Cobb to helm the harmony-bursting project. The Music City move proved less a country turn than a spark of soulful fire to the trio’s emotive melodies and vocal interplay, surging with Civil Wars passion while playfully rolling in big hooks live.
