    Cory Branan, Harvest Thieves

Cory Branan married right when he teamed with rebel roots imprint Bloodshot Records for 2012’s Mutt, allowing the Mississippi native to unabashedly meld his punk and country impulses. On last year’s fifth LP Adios, he emerged as an idiosyncratic but athemic voice of no-way-out ballads and wit-wrecked nonchalance in the vein of Lucero, including the LP’s opening rush “I Only Know,” with Against Me’s Laura Jane Grace. Local sixpiece country-rock rompers Harvest Thieves fire first.
