Anythings Baked Potato: First Anniversary Week
Mmmm, yeah – it's been a solid (although, now, increasingly weird) year for this bastion of spud-based, flavor-forward goodness, and they're celebrating with a bounty of specials and music and, oh, you know: It's a weeklong anniversary party! Milam & Greene: Straight Bourbon Whiskey Pickup Party
Out there at the Milam & Green Distillery in Blanco, they're celebrating the company's first Distillery Edition Straight Bourbon Whiskey. (This fierce but smooth new spirit was pot-distilled in a 300-gallon copper still, non-chill filtered, and bottled at barrel proof. Note: Only 1,430 bottles were made.) Head on out there today and buy a bottle signed by the people who created it – and you'll get some free samples of Milam & Greene's new cocktail syrups along with it. The Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival
Of course the festival's still on! You didn't think we'd let some paltry, world-changing pandemic get in the way of our 30th year of celebrating local expressions of deliciously edible heat and supporting the Central Texas Food Bank, did you? Because, what do they say? "Now, more than ever," right? That's so true – and so your Chronicle is hosting a virtual event featuring winner announcements for commercial bottler categories, music, videos, and more. To experience this at home, you can purchase your very own Hot Sauce Tasting Kits – which include samplings from a variety of local bottlers and all-new Hot Sauce Festival merch – and generally prepare to let your capsaicin-loving freak flags fly.Sun., Aug. 30, 1pm.
