BookPeople welcomes Molly Odintz, Hopeton Hay, Amanda Moore, Gabino Iglesias, and Amy Gentry to celebrate the release of this new and locally set collection of crime stories from Akashic Books. The event will include an audience Q&A and a signing line.

Last seen at Monks with singer Christian Wigg and Grammy-recognized Steven Feifke, bassist Daniel Foose splits his time between Austin and his day job: playing with Lady Gaga when she’s in jazz mode. In that capacity, Foose has participated in Grammy winners like last year’s Love For Sale. He’s also logged time with Stevie Wonder, Terence Blanchard, Jon Batiste, and the proverbial many more. Foose released Of Water and Ghosts, his debut album as a leader, in 2016. Expect songs from that LP and new compositions, as well as fireworks between Foose, drummer Adam Jackson, and guitarist Bruce Saunders.

Felipe Gomez’s first solo exhibition is an exploration of wood, oil, and acrylic paint, featuring works that celebrate the powerful and resilient spirit of Latino, Afro-Latino, and indigenous communities in the modern world.

Austin Shakespeare brings Short Shakespeare to the Zilker Hillside Theater, featuring four plays (20-minute versions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tempest, Twelfth Night, and Hamlet) with five actors and two musicians, directed by Gwendolyn Kelso.

Since their 2021 inception, Sludge has gained momentum with their angsty but dreamy, mosh-filled sets. A staple in the local house scene, the fourpiece alternative rock group couples their riot grrrl influence with beachy grunge – plus a thrifted, bold aesthetic to fit perfectly among the independently crafted and vintage clothing racks at Feels So Good’s South Austin space. The Austin band’s spacey songs will complement the psychedelic soundscape forged by Hot Cakes’ deep, haunting vocals and echoey instrumentals. Sludge’s funky, cinematic single “Greg Abbott’s Maxi Pad” will also suitably follow the political loudness on Rat Church’s “Kill Your Local Nazi.”

Damian Noll uses a magnifying lens to draw with sunlight, solar-tattooing his designs onto bones acquired from local hunters, butchers, or road kills. For a limited time, you can see these beauties on display, 24/7, in ICOSA's front window at Canopy – but don't miss the artist reception!
