Female Trouble

Female Trouble

1974, NC-17, 89 min. Directed by John Waters. Starring Divine, Edith Massey, David Lochary, Cookie Mueller, Mary Vivian Pearce, Mink Stole.

REVIEWED By Marjorie Baumgarten, Tue., May 28, 2002

John Waters' follow-up to his groundbreaking commercial success with Pink Flamingos was this over-the-top melodrama starring Divine in a tour-de-force performance as Dawn Davenport, a girl who leaves home when she doesn't get the cha-cha heels she wanted for Christmas. The film also stars most of the Waters' corps of regulars, including Edith Massey, who manages to top(less) her turn as Flamingos distinctive Egg Lady.
