Forbidden City Cop

R, 89 min. Directed by Stephen Chow. Starring Stephen Chow, Carina Lau, Carmen Lee, Indra Leech.

REVIEWED By Marjorie Baumgarten, Wed., Nov. 1, 2000

Hong Kong’s biggest box-office star, Stephen Chow, wrote, directed, and stars in this period comedy. He plays an imperial-era policeman who can’t compete with the better superheroes on the royal force. The setup provides abundant opportunities for Chow’s comic riffs, which were last seen in Austin in this series’ highly popular God of Cookery.
