REVIEWED By Marjorie Baumgarten, Thu., Aug. 26, 1999
Actor Adam Goldberg (Sgt. Mellish in Saving Private Ryan, Dazed and Confused) makes his debut as a director with this new feature. He also stars as a lovesick writer who wanders the city seeking refuge in drink and the company of his disaffected friends (many of whom appear to be Linklater regulars as well). For consolation, he listens to the soulful lamentations of rediscovered jazz legend Jimmy Scott (one of the truly great and original voices in jazz). The screening and Q&A will be followed by a party in honor of the TFPF hosted by Goldberg and Nicky Katt.
