Buffalo Jump

Independent first feature from writer-director Chris Johnstone boasts good notices, including a strong review in Variety that notes: “Plot deals with two 30ish wanderers, Nick (Backlund) and Leigh (Fogarty) who co-starred as teens on a '70s sitcom Heaven Help Poppa. Fleeing when reruns of their show appear on cable TV, they aimlessly drive from town to town with their self-appointed traveling companion, Maryland, who has become Leigh's lover.'' They end up in a Virginia fishing town where they settle in among the colorful locals. Calling it a “witty and well-observed effort,'' reviewer Joe Leydon went on to note, “Pic recalls the low-key humor and insight of another no-frills debut, John Sayles Return of the Secaucus 7.'' In conjunction with SXSW there will be one screening of Buffalo Jump, at 5pm on Saturday, March 20 at the Dobie Theatre, a limited number of tickets will be available at the box office.
