    Take a Hike in a Special Place

    About a 50-minute drive west of Austin, the wildlife refuge has miles of trails and you can walk for hours without seeing another person. The Warbler Vista/Sunset Deck and Shin Oak Observation Deck are two of the very special places.

    Texas State Parks

    Update 4/7/20: State parks temporarily close tonight, but check back later to see when they will reopen. Read more here. Many state parks are still open for outdoor activities, although visitors are warned to maintain social distancing. Buildings, visitor centers, equipment rentals, and stores are closed and visitors are asked to purchase passes online. Check the “Alert Map” to see which parks are open.

    Wildflower Drives Are at Their Peak

    The wildflowers are off to an early and good start. The backroads around the Highland Lakes are especially colorful this year. However, it's advised at the moment to stay home and stay safe, and wait to check out the flowers.
