    The Acro-Cats tour supports Rock Cats Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Rock Cats Rescue is focused on saving cats "One Click at a Time" through cat welfare, rescue, and adoption. The Acro-Cats show promotes the importance of bonding and training cats with positive reinforcement, while also finding homes for rescued cats.

      A bibliophile's dream come true, the Texas Book Festival is now a hybrid nine-day event, with plenty of virtual programming and two days of in-person activities.       Participants can enter their most creatively spooky getups or home displays by sending hi-res photos to halloween@austinchronicle.com. The grand prize is a pair of tickets to Austin FC's last home game on Nov. 3 and the winner will be featured in the Halloween issue of the Chronicle, on stands Oct. 29. Runners-up and honorable mentions will also be eligible for special prizes.

      Things are about to get ugly in an adorable way. Submit pics online of your adorabugly doggo, and voting takes place all week at Jo's Coffee Downtown and on Red River. See the finalists strut their stuff on Sunday at 12:30, and winners will be announced at 1pm. Submission and voting fees go to the Austin Humane Society.

      The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center is the hub for Austin's Day of the Dead. Pick up a free sugar skull kit on Fridays and Saturdays, 10am-4pm, starting Oct. 8 (while supplies last). Create an altar or submit photos/mementos for MACC's altar by Oct. 25.       Riverbat Paddle Battle

      This kayak race on Lady Bird Lake supports the Austin Community College Foundation, and due to COVID-19 has shifted to a virtual format for everyone's health and safety. This means you can paddle at your own pace and time it yourself, then submit your time by Oct. 25 for a chance to win a prize pack. There are three course options: 1-mile novice, 2-mile intermediate, and a 500-yard for kids. Registration for the race gets you a rowing pass valid for six months, a T-shirt, and a swag bag, and it benefits ACC.
