    Austin Chronicle Costume & Yard Art Contest

    Participants can enter their most creatively spooky getups or home displays by sending hi-res photos to halloween@austinchronicle.com. The grand prize is a pair of tickets to Austin FC's last home game on Nov. 3 and the winner will be featured in the Halloween issue of the Chronicle, on stands Oct. 29. Runners-up and honorable mentions will also be eligible for special prizes.

    Get ready for the prom of your nightmares with Die Felicia’s frightening cast of drag hellhounds. Performances by Champagne Killer, Papi Churro, Midknight Purchase, Sticky Gold, Rosalind Hussell, and Evah Destruction, plus special guests Simone Riviera, Leia Sakura Dior, and Veronica Valentine. Arrive early to get your goth prom photos taken at Beatrice Haven’s photobooth, plus corsages available for purchase while supplies last.

    Check out a multitude of online offerings to celebrate Day of the Dead, including recipes, virtual exhibits, activity guides, and more. In-person events include parade art displays, an augmented ofrenda mural, a store, free papel picado art kits for kids, and free pan de muerto while supplies last.

    Day of the Dead at MACC

    The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center is the hub for Austin's Day of the Dead. Pick up a free sugar skull kit on Fridays and Saturdays, 10am-4pm, starting Oct. 8 (while supplies last). Create an altar or submit photos/mementos for MACC's altar by Oct. 25. Displays will be on view through Nov. 7.

    A half-mile walking trail lined with displays dedicated to the glorious gourd, including giant jack-o'-lanterns, the world’s largest pumpkin guitar, a flying 40-foot handmade dragon, a life-size pumpkin pirate ship, and more fantastic surprises built by artists using over 5,000 hand-carved pumpkins.

    Scare for a Cure: Lockdown

    This terrifying interactive haunted house at the J. Lorraine Ghost Town comes with a special bonus: It's raising funds for the Breast Cancer Resource Center and Manor ISD. Called "Lockdown" because it takes place in a futuristic prison setting, it's also so interactive you'll emerge covered in goo and guts, so be ready to get messy!
