    Austin Chronicle Costume & Yard Art Contest

    Participants can enter their most creatively spooky getups or home displays by sending hi-res photos to halloween@austinchronicle.com. The grand prize is a pair of tickets to Austin FC's last home game on Nov. 3 and the winner will be featured in the Halloween issue of the Chronicle, on stands Oct. 29. Runners-up and honorable mentions will also be eligible for special prizes.

    Poo Poo Platter brings back some of their favorite – and spookiest – contestants from previous years for a second chance to win Drag Supreme of Halloween.     Day of the Dead at MACC

    The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center is the hub for Austin's Day of the Dead. Pick up a free sugar skull kit on Fridays and Saturdays, 10am-4pm, starting Oct. 8 (while supplies last). Create an altar or submit photos/mementos for MACC's altar by Oct. 25. Displays will be on view through Nov. 7.

    Scare for a Cure: Lockdown

    This terrifying interactive haunted house at the J. Lorraine Ghost Town comes with a special bonus: It's raising funds for the Breast Cancer Resource Center and Manor ISD. Called "Lockdown" because it takes place in a futuristic prison setting, it's also so interactive you'll emerge covered in goo and guts, so be ready to get messy!
