    Austin African American Book Festival

    The fest returns for its 17th year, bringing an interactive community gathering and cultural celebration of African American writers and their work through literary-based programming that includes author talks, book discussions, pop culture conversations, children's activities, and a vendor marketplace. Highlights include special guests Kwame Alexander, a New York Times bestselling author and multiple award-winning poet, producer, and educator, and Gayle Jessup White, former NYT journalist and current author and community engagement officer at Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s legendary estate.

    Black West Austin Driving Tour

    Join Neill-Cochran House Museum for a tour of West Austin African American history beginning at the museum and winding through historic sites of Wheatville and Clarksville, two of the original fifteen freedman communities established in Austin after the end of the Civil War. The tour includes access to videos for each stop that explore the history of the site and create connections between the past and present.

    Fresh for Less Mobile Markets

    This program from the city of Austin, run by Farmshare Austin, has opened new market locations. There are now six weekly markets around town that sell Texas-grown produce, eggs, honey, and other groceries all at reduced prices. Most major cards are accepted at these markets and if you are a SNAP customer, you can also use your Lone Star card and Double Up Food Bucks. Locations and schedules are subject to change, so check the current info online to find one near you.
