    Volunteer With Refugee Services of Texas

    RSTX is seeking mentors for their Youth Mentoring Program, which is focused on meeting the unique needs of youth ages 15-24 as they adapt to life in a new country. Mentors are paired with a mentee for six months and meet for a minimum of eight hours per month to work on goals together. Mentors must be at least 18 years old, residing in or near Austin, and able to meet the time commitment. All applicants welcome, regardless of language or profession, but there is currently a specific need for male mentors that speak Pashto, Dari, or Kinyarwanda.

    We Are Here! Living the Legacy of Dr. Givens

    The Givens Park Working Group, in partnership with Forklift Danceworks and Austin PBS, invites you to tune in for a virtual celebration and community conversation honoring Dr. Everett Givens, the namesake of Givens Park and a tireless advocate for the Black community.: Host Kimberly Holiday (KAZI’s “Lady Joy”) and cast members from Givens Swims kick off the festivities and artist Cindy Elizabeth will share reflections on her work Allegiance, installed at Givens Park last summer. Then, Givens Park community leaders will discuss the past, present, and future of the park in a conversation moderated by Alberta Phillips. Donations to nonprofit Roslyn’s Novel, which supports the Givens community, are encouraged.

    COVID-19 Vaccine Trial Research Participants Needed

    This month, medical research firm Benchmark Research will launch clinical trials to test vaccines aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19 in Austin. Participants must be 18 or older, and front-line workers, people likely to be exposed to the virus, and those over 65 or at high risk with chronic health conditions are especially needed.
