W&TW: DreamLife
This year's fundraising soirée from Women & Their Work celebrates the many ways that artists, past and present, female and male, have found dreams to be a source of inspiration and a space for exploring the imagination. The Daphne House, an ethereal Victorian home in Travis Heights, is the setting for this oneiric extravaganza, and the whole night of cocktails and noms and art and performance is sure to inspire particularly rapid eye movements and, later, in the privacy of your own (perhaps less ethereal) home, a certain amount of refreshing delta sleep. Exposure Gallery: Tuesday Night Oil Painters

Davis Gallery: A Shared Vision
There are about as many "shared visions" as there are pairs of eyeballs in this miserable world, of course, but this show's title is intended to embody the greater meaning of the phrase and – the important part, here – it titles a collection of artwork by Denise M. Fulton and Sam Yeates. The vision of either of those local artists, and the skill each exerts in rendering that vision visible to the rest of us, is nigh on incredible. This is the first Reynolds Gallery show for both of these artists, and we were all like, "Hey, Natalie Frank! With a Grimm exhibition just in time for Ballet Austin's Grimm Tales based on her fantastic works!" and we barely even made note of Mr. Marsh's part of this two-person display … until we saw some stunning images showing the gorgeous and fairly chthonic "Cauldrons and Crucibles" work the man does with ceramics small and large – and then we made damned good and sure our schedule was clear for an even longer visit to this excellent Downtown venue.Through June 8 -

Prizer Arts & Letters: Journeying
A new show by Stella Alesi is always cause for celebration, so we're partying (albeit in a stark and minimal fashion) just thinking about this latest one. "Journeying" features works created in direct opposition to the fast-paced and visually overloaded times we live in, the paintings here formed from simple shapes and a limited palette. "With influences from minimal abstraction, hard edge painting from the Fifties and Sixties as well as American Northwest Indian painting," say the gallery notes, "Alesi’s works introduce a unique vocabulary for the present time."
